CHC Addiction Services is proud to announce its 2019 Break the Cycle of Addiction Luncheon. This year will feature, Michael Swartout, who will share his story of recovery and how gender-specific treatment can help men.

As the former Ravenna Chief of Police, Michael was a beloved leader within a close-knit community. Societal standards said a man like Michael had to be in control, hold it together and not ask for help. Instead, Michael turned to substance abuse to deal with long-term chronic pain issues and a history of trauma. After a stand-off with police and coverage of the event on national media, Michael was sent to prison.

After serving time in prison, Michael now educates and serves as a role model for individuals in recovery through his work at Interval Brotherhood Home in Akron. He also provides educational programs on substance abuse and recovery to our community.

Michael will tell his story and the double standard between “man rules” and trauma, which challenges men with substance abuse issues in seeking help and recovery.

The event will take place on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Hilton Akron/Fairlawn. Registration opens at 11:30 a.m. and the luncheon begins at 12:00 p.m. We welcome you to purchase tickets and support CHC at:
